The Peninsula Bangkok

The Peninsula Bangkok reviewed for river-facing rooms, category-specific balconies and the boat connection that recent Deluxe guests found useful.

EDITORIAL REVIEW · 623 words · 4 min read · Editorial date 27 May 2024

The Peninsula Bangkok is a riverfront hotel on Charoen Nakhon Road, with the river itself central to the stay. Its appeal is the combination of a substantial hotel, outlook and boat access, rather than an address among the old-city temple lanes. Choosing the room requires one important distinction: a river view does not by itself mean a private balcony.

A riverfront address with a different rhythm

Booking.com identifies the property at 333 Charoen Nakhon Road in Khlong San. The Peninsula’s own Riverside Experience page describes complimentary shuttle-boat and tuk-tuk services, while its transport page describes the hotel’s river vessels. These are concrete features of the property, rather than a vague promise that the river is nearby.

A boat connection can be attractive for a visitor who wants the journey to be part of a Bangkok stay. It is not a private direct service to every temple in this guide. The hotel’s own pier arrangements need to be understood separately from public boats and cross-river ferries. The west-bank setting also means a room facing the city has a different outlook from a hotel on the opposite bank.

Inside this review

A balcony is a named category

The current official room collection distinguishes Deluxe Room, Deluxe Balcony Room and Grand Deluxe Balcony Room. Booking.com also separately lists a Grand Deluxe King Room with Balcony. The practical implication is straightforward: a room booked simply as Deluxe should not be selected on the assumption that an outdoor balcony is included.

Peninsula’s retained official Deluxe Balcony description identifies a private riverfront balcony, Thai teak and silk finishes, a sitting area and a marble bathroom with two basins. That helps explain the appeal of this category for someone who intends to spend time in the room. It does not establish the floor, exact view angle or bathroom arrangement of every other category in the building.

Recent Deluxe guests support the view and boat appeal

A Trip.com guest who posted on 6 October 2026 after staying in a Deluxe Room described a spacious room, attractive views, the pool and the breakfast setting positively. The same account found the boat connection useful for visiting ICONSIAM. This supports the idea of enjoying the hotel between outings rather than using it solely as an overnight stop.

A July 2026 Deluxe Room guest on another Trip.com edition also valued the boat service. That agreement is useful, but a guest’s recollection of a particular departure pattern is not a dependable timetable. The reviews establish that those visitors used and appreciated the connection; they do not establish a fixed service interval for another date.

These are accounts of Deluxe accommodation. They should not be presented as guests’ endorsements of a balcony room or a named suite they did not book. Nor does a positive breakfast comment prove breakfast is included in every available rate.

Shared leisure facilities are part of the decision

The Peninsula has a dedicated official pool page and separately markets pool-and-dining access. That confirms the pool as a substantial shared facility; it does not mean a poolside seat, spa treatment or dining credit is automatically included with all accommodation. The hotel’s transport, room and leisure components each have their own conditions.

The official French pool page places the pool at garden level and describes traditional salas for shade beside the river. The spa page separately identifies fitness, sauna, steam and plunge-pool facilities. That gives a clearer picture than assuming all leisure space is a rooftop deck, while keeping spa treatments distinct from an ordinary room inclusion.

For a temple-focused visit, the strongest match is a traveller who wants a riverfront retreat after the historic districts and accepts that sightseeing involves transport. Someone whose main goal is to leave the room and enter Wat Pho immediately may prefer a smaller old-city address. Here, the justification is time spent enjoying the property, choosing the correct view-and-balcony category and making use of its river connection.
