EDITORIAL REVIEW · 643 words · 4 min read · Editorial date 8 April 2025

Sourire at Rattanakosin Island Hotel is a small, older-style choice for travellers who value a host-led atmosphere around the eastern old town. The room range includes compact Superior accommodation, larger Deluxe twins and family configurations. The useful question is whether its scale and character suit you, rather than whether the word “Island” means a detached holiday island or a room beside the river.

Superior, Deluxe and family rooms solve different needs

Agoda lists the Superior Double and Superior Twin at 20 square metres, with one double bed or two singles respectively. It lists the Deluxe Twin at 32 square metres. For two friends with luggage, that is a meaningful space distinction: choosing separate beds does not by itself tell you how much circulation space remains around them.

A Family Studio is listed at 45 square metres with a king bed and a bunk bed. Another category called Family Suite has a different, smaller listing and a less straightforward bed description. Families should identify the precise category and its bed arrangement rather than treating the words Studio and Suite as interchangeable. The room called a suite is not automatically the largest or best match for a group.

Inside this review

A recent guest values the quiet and the host

Biljana, an Agoda guest in a Superior Twin for four nights in January 2026, described a quiet, characterful place, clean rooms, warm showers and a refrigerator. The account particularly praised the woman running the property. It is a useful example of what can make a modest room work: reliable essentials combined with a welcoming host, rather than an extensive recreation programme.

A different Agoda guest in a Deluxe Twin in December 2024 found the facilities older but clean and comfortable, with friendly staff and food options a short walk away. That older account should not be mistaken for a fresh inspection. It does, however, help explain why age and appeal can coexist here. Someone who finds an older interior charming may make a different choice from someone expecting a newly fitted room.

Sharon, reviewing a couple’s stay on Klook in April 2025, found the host friendly and the hotel quiet, but described a small bathroom and hot water that was available in the morning rather than at night on that visit. That older account does not establish a current fault. It does identify a useful room-specific question if a reliably hot late-night shower is important after a long arrival day.

Understand the street setting before planning walks

Booking.com places the property on Ratchadamnoen Klang Road in the old city, while Klook lists the address as 235 Rajdamnern Avenue. This is an urban boulevard setting, not a riverside resort. Include the actual entrance and suitable road crossings when comparing walks, rather than drawing a straight line between the hotel and a temple on a map.

For this website’s temple itinerary, Wat Ratchanatdaram and Wat Saket provide a more natural eastern old-town grouping than assuming a river-pier departure for every morning. The palace temple and Wat Pho remain separate visits farther west. The important benefit is access to an old-town neighbourhood with eateries, not a claim that every major temple is immediately outside the door.

Where this style of stay makes sense

The evidence points toward a traveller who will spend much of the day exploring and appreciate a small, personal return address. The January guest’s praise for the host is more relevant to that decision than an undated platform summary. No particular host interaction can be promised, but the account gives a concrete reason to consider Sourire beyond its location label.

Compare room size and beds before comparing category names. Two adults who only need a tidy base may be comfortable with a Superior room; a pair needing more luggage space has a larger Deluxe Twin to investigate. A family should work from the confirmed bed layout rather than the suite label. This keeps the decision grounded in the room being sold, with the older-house atmosphere treated as a preference rather than either a defect or a universal advantage.
