Sala Arun

Sala Arun review: river-facing balconies, Eagle Nest rooftop activity, upper-floor stairs and planning an old-city temple stay.

EDITORIAL REVIEW · 591 words · 3 min read · Editorial date 19 June 2026

Sala Arun is a small riverside property in Tha Tien, with Wat Arun on the opposite bank and Wat Pho on the old-city side. Its rooftop Eagle Nest bar and river-facing bedrooms are the main attractions. They also make room position important: a city-facing room, a river-facing balcony and a room beneath a bar can produce quite different stays in the same building.

Inside this review

Two temples, two directions

The hotel’s accommodation page distinguishes rooms looking toward the Temple of Dawn from rooms facing Wat Pho and the city. It specifically describes a third-floor river-view deluxe room with a private balcony. The booking listing likewise separates city-view and river-view categories. A general photograph of Wat Arun should therefore not be treated as the view included with every reservation.

The official room page contains conflicting overall room counts and dimensions, so those are not reliable ways to choose between categories. The useful question is the individual room’s position: which temple is visible, whether the balcony is private, and which floor it occupies. The hotel describes wood-focused interiors and individually named rooms. Those details point toward a small, characterful building rather than interchangeable accommodation in a large tower.

What is inside, and what is upstairs

The current booking listing describes air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms, a refrigerator or minibar, a safe and shower facilities. It also lists luggage storage and laundry. These are practical basics for an old-city visit, but they do not establish that a particular room has an uninterrupted river panorama. Balcony and view wording should remain part of the category comparison.

Eagle Nest gives the property an additional place from which to see the river. A rooftop bar brings outside visitors and evening activity as well as scenery. A March 2026 guest account on Booking.com described noise below the bar and stair access without a lift. An older July 2024 Trip.com guest also enjoyed a third-floor Wat Arun-facing balcony but reported a disruptive bar incident. These are individual experiences, not proof that every evening or every bedroom is noisy.

The neighbourhood earns its place in the itinerary

Sala Arun is particularly coherent for a visit built around Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Arun. Start by grouping the two east-bank temple visits together; give the opposite-bank visit its own crossing. That avoids treating the river as if it were a road that could be crossed directly from the room. The sightline is excellent for understanding the geography, but it does not replace the journey to the temple entrance.

Wat Kalayanamit can belong to a wider west-bank outing, while Wat Paknam needs a separate plan farther into Thonburi. The hotel’s location alone does not make either one a neighbouring attraction. Travellers interested mainly in these southern and western stops should compare the time spent reaching them with the value they place on a Tha Tien balcony. This address works best when the old-city riverfront itself is a substantial part of the holiday.

Small-property service needs and the best match

Undated individual Booking.com accounts praise the view and helpful restaurant or hotel staff. One March 2026 account also describes difficulty obtaining luggage help for a very early departure when the desk was unattended. That is relevant for a guest leaving before a normal daytime operation begins, without proving that assistance is unavailable on every morning.

Sala Arun is a strong conceptual match for couples who want a modest-scale riverside base and care about a particular balcony view. It is a more conditional choice for light sleepers, travellers who require an elevator, or anyone expecting a large hotel’s round-the-clock staffing. Resolve those specific building and room questions before placing the rooftop photograph ahead of the sleeping arrangements.
