Its attraction is that position and a conventional room-and-pool format. The caution is variability: recent guests describe both comfortable stays and older facilities, so the specific room matters more than the historic name.

Read the room specifications rather than the upgrade label

The official room page lists a Deluxe Room at 30 square metres and describes a private bathroom, city view and sofa bed. It also lists Grand Deluxe and a two-bedroom Grand Suite. Surprisingly, the same page gives the Grand Deluxe a smaller stated floor area than the Deluxe. A higher-sounding name therefore should not be treated as a reliable guarantee of more space.

The suite information also conflicts across sources: the official room overview gives a smaller figure than the current Booking.com table. The dependable point is the existence of a two-bedroom configuration, not a single agreed floor area or an assumption that every suite accepts any family size. Ask for the current plan and permitted occupancy if separate bedrooms are the reason for booking.

A Trip.com guest posting in September 2026 after a three-night stay with three people described a clean, spacious room and a simple breakfast they found acceptable. Another September account praised reception and clean public areas while still describing the hotel as dated and the pool as small. These accounts support considering the property as an older practical base, not presenting it as a newly refurbished luxury hotel.

Other recent accounts are less favourable. A guest posting at the end of September reported room changes and problems with cleanliness, Wi-Fi and a door, while an August account disliked the breakfast. These remain individual experiences, not proof that every room shares the same defects. The pattern is a reason to pay attention to current room condition and the value of the exact offer rather than assuming the name settles the decision.

Use the avenue location deliberately

The official address is 2 Rajdamnoen Avenue. That puts the hotel in a different position from the smaller Samsen guesthouses farther north or a property directly beside the river. A palace-focused visit can benefit from staying in this part of Rattanakosin, while evenings around Khao San are another distinct use of the location.

Wat Phra Kaew is inside the Grand Palace compound and uses its visitor entrance and ticket controls. Staying in the old town does not eliminate those access arrangements. For Wat Pho and Wat Arun, plan the actual walking and river crossings as separate legs. A guest’s enthusiastic description of nearby attractions should not become a promise that the entire temple circuit can be reached without transport or road crossings.

Who should compare it closely

This hotel makes the most sense for a traveller prioritising an old-town position and a traditional full-size hotel over a small design guesthouse. Its two-bedroom option may also be worth investigating for companions who need more separation than a triple room gives. The inconsistent published suite measurements make direct confirmation especially important in that case.

The room category, current condition and chosen meal package should drive the value comparison. A simple breakfast can be adequate for one visitor and disappointing for another; recent reports demonstrate exactly that difference. If polished new interiors and highly predictable equipment are your priority, compare alternatives carefully. If the avenue location is central to your plans, Royal Rattanakosin remains a candidate to assess with realistic expectations and room-specific information.
