Inside this review
Urban is a city-facing choice
The official Urban Room is listed at 32 square metres with king or twin beds, a wooden-floored balcony, working space and a private shower bathroom. Its outlook is over the old city. A traveller who wants the property’s shared riverside setting but does not need a river view from the bedroom can therefore investigate Urban without misunderstanding what is being sold.
Riva rooms change both view and space
The Riva Room is listed at 30 square metres in a corner position with a 90-degree view of the river. Deluxe Riva is 40 square metres with a larger tiled balcony and river panorama. Bigger and more expensive do not simply mean the same room on a higher floor; the published categories change the space and outside area as well as the outlook.
Premium Riva is 48 square metres and adds a furnished private balcony, lounge area, dining table and a larger working space. Its official description notes a glass-encased bathroom. That makes room privacy worth examining for companions who are not a couple, while the lounge and table provide a more specific reason to pay for space than the word premium alone.
The river is active scenery
An April 2026 Urban-room family guest liked the Thai decorative details, beds and staff, and enjoyed watching transport and excursion boats passing the pool. A September Urban couple also praised the staff and dining, but said they could hear barges in the evening and reported ants in their room. These are individual experiences, not a statement that all Urban rooms have the same sound or cleanliness issue.
The contrast captures the riverside trade-off: moving boats are part of the attraction and can also be audible. A river view is not a guarantee of silence, and a city-facing booking is not proof that river sounds are impossible. If sleep is the priority, ask about the actual room position rather than relying on the category name as an acoustic specification.
Phra Athit makes a useful north-old-town base
The official address is 23 Phra Athit Road. A June 2026 guest found Phra Athit Pier useful for exploring the old town. Check the actual route and stop pattern for your chosen boat, particularly when travelling toward Wat Pho or Wat Arun. The hotel’s riverfront position does not mean every passing boat is available from the same pier.
The palace temple and Wat Pho are south of this neighbourhood, while Wat Saket and Wat Ratchanatdaram make a different inland outing. Riva Surya is also a distinct hotel from Riva Arun, whose name appears in the brand’s links. Do not transfer Riva Arun’s opposite-Wat-Arun viewpoint to a Riva Surya booking on Phra Athit Road.
When the balcony is worth prioritising
Riva Surya is most persuasive when a riverside pause is an intentional part of the holiday: breakfast or a swim near the water, then time on the right room balcony. A traveller who only needs a bed between full days of sightseeing may reasonably value the Urban option differently from someone planning long afternoons at the hotel.
Compare Urban, Riva, Deluxe Riva and Premium Riva as distinct layouts with distinct outlooks. The right choice depends on whether you need twins, usable outside space, a separate sitting area or a specific view. The river gives this hotel its character, but the exact room and your tolerance for the activity around it determine how well that character suits your stay.
