Arun Residence

Arun Residence review: Arun Suite views, split-level room stairs, The Deck and Amorosa, and the limits of older guest evidence.

EDITORIAL REVIEW · 607 words · 4 min read · Editorial date 27 February 2024

Arun Residence combines accommodation with The Deck restaurant and Amorosa bar in the Tha Tien riverside lanes. A room overlooking Wat Arun can be a memorable reason to stay here, but the river view and the internal layout need equal attention. Some accommodation is arranged across levels, which is a much more important distinction than the small difference between generic room labels.

A suite is not every room’s view

The official accommodation page highlights its Arun Suite and a Wat Arun outlook. It does not present every bedroom as having that same panorama. The booking catalogue separates Deluxe Double accommodation from suites, and the room photographs and individual descriptions should be matched to the category being purchased. A riverside address alone does not establish that the bed faces the river.

Published floor areas differ across booking platforms, as do some room labels. It is therefore better to identify the actual room, balcony and arrangement than rely on an isolated size figure. A couple choosing mainly for an evening view has a clear reason to prioritise the Arun Suite description. Someone selecting a less expensive double should make the decision on that room’s own features rather than borrowing the suite’s appeal.

Inside this review

Stairs can be inside the accommodation

A November 2023 Trip.com guest described a two-storey room with the bed upstairs and the bathroom below, reached by narrow turning stairs. The same account found the bed comfortable but said another window faced an internal area. That older, room-specific account is useful because it identifies a layout issue that a broad waterfront photograph will not show. It does not mean every room has that arrangement.

This distinction matters during the night as well as at check-in. A bathroom on another level introduces a repeated stair journey within the private space. Travellers who need a level sleeping-and-bathing arrangement, or who are uncomfortable with narrow stairs, should obtain confirmation of both the route to the room and the route inside it. A suite can offer more living space while also being the less suitable choice for those needs.

Dining is a separate part of the building

The Deck and Amorosa are named operations on the hotel’s own website. That gives guests dining and evening-view options without changing neighbourhoods. It also means the premises serve restaurant and bar customers as well as overnight residents. A verified Expedia guest who stayed in January 2020 praised the river outlook and restaurant food, while noting the activity created by dining and drinking on several levels. The account is historical and should not be treated as a current noise measurement.

An original December 2019 Expedia guest likewise liked the view, spacious room and made-to-order breakfast. These older accounts describe why the property appealed to their occupants; they cannot guarantee the present breakfast arrangement or a quiet room. Where an evening meal is central to the stay, table availability and its position are separate questions from the room booking.

Use the riverfront location deliberately

Wat Pho and the Grand Palace–Wat Phra Kaew complex belong to the hotel’s own side of the Chao Phraya. Wat Arun is the visual focus across the water, requiring a crossing for an actual visit. Combining the east-bank temples on one outing and the west bank on another makes more sense than repeatedly going back and forth because all three appear close on a map.

Arun Residence is best suited to travellers who want a small, individual old-city stay and who can accept the building’s vertical layout. It is a more difficult match for anyone requiring confirmed step-free access or modern, identical rooms. Its case rests on the particular bedroom and the Tha Tien setting, so the most valuable pre-stay clarification is the exact accommodation layout, rather than a general promise that the hotel has a river view.
